A close friend of mine is getting married next month, and we’re due to celebrate her last few days as a ‘single’ lady with a girls weekend in Barcelona. It’s a really exciting time of the year, and with so much up and coming, I’ve been on (several) shopping sprees to purchase a new summer wardrobe, including holiday clothes and pieces for the wedding. It’s an extensive inventory and one which I feel compelled to share in a series of posts. In this post, I’ll be showing a few key items that I’m excited to wear, followed by a more extensive ‘Barcelona Lookbook’ blog post which will be coming next week. Keep an eye out – there could be a vlog involved!
Let’s just get this one out of the way. I desperately needed a budget-friendly suitcase that’d be ideal for weekend getaways. I purchased this rose gold suitcase from Amazon for £29.99. The colour is obviously what drew me in (it has Instagram aesthetic all over it!), but it’s pretty functional, lightweight, sleek and offers a surprising amount of space. In fact, I’ve already packed way too many outfits for one long weekend away, so it serves its purpose.
Primark definitely has surprised me with their spring/summer collection this year. I came across this little number and fell in love with the playful ‘minimalist’ appeal: an A-line design, with a flattering thin waist tie and matching buttons down the front. I’m not usually big on bright colours, and so yellow isn’t a colour I typically reach for, but this dress has me converted. I can see how this yellow will work well to compliment my tan.
The second dress is a Green Paisley Print Bardot Dress from Missguided. I generally tend to avoid Bardot style as I feel it draws attention to the broadness of my shoulders, however, I couldn’t resist with trying this one out. The mint green colour is truly beautiful, and the lightweight material makes this a really practical and flattering dress to wear. The only problem I did find is that it was a little on the smaller side, so if you were to order this, I would suggest going a size up. I’m wearing a size 10 here and it’s a little tight around the back. Here’s to hoping the zipper won’t pop open.
Bags & Accessories
Instead of taking my expensive River Island bag, I thought it would make more sense to purchase a cheap bag to carry all my essentials and important documents. It was important that I found something that could be wiped down (alcohol + sand) and versatile to work with most of my outfits.
Whilst I was originally looking for something more ‘hand-carried’, my mind was changed when I spotted this miniature backpack from Primark. I hate clutter and get stressed when I’m carrying too much stuff – the airport is to no exception and the last place I need my anxiety kicking in on me. With this in mind, I opted for a backpack instead which would allow me to alleviate some stress by ensuring my hands are kept free.
Aside from its purpose and function, I really love the design. The neutral tones and contrast of grey to black lining makes a bold but minimalist accessory, with the large zipper adding an edginess to the overall look. It’s really versatile and I’m looking forwarding to using it throughout the year if of course, it lasts that long. On a side note, I was also pleasantly surprised to find that the bag didn’t just offer one compartment, but three separate compartments providing me with enough space to organise my items, slightly unexpected for a £10 Primark bag.
Tops & Shorts
So, when I go on holiday I like to bring a staple pair of high waisted denim shorts and a variety of tops to change into. It’s just an easy way to scramble an outfit on lazy days. The first top is a bralet that was bought from New Look. Bralets aren’t usually an item I would buy because I’m not comfortable showing my mid-drift, but I noticed the cut was slightly longer so would offer me the coverage I need. I also really liked the Aztec pattern/bohemian vibe which is very summer appropriate. The only downside to this top was that it’s a little on the larger side and could leave me exposed, but it’s nothing a bit of fashion tape can’t fix. Again, size up unless you are particularly busty.
I also love halter neck crop tops during the summer and tend to stock up on them while I can. I love this nautical inspired top from Primark, which is just a basic striped design. There’s not much to say here, besides from the fact it’s a little see-through, so I’d recommend wearing something underneath!
I fly out to Barcelona in four days, where I will be documenting our day to day activities, lookbooks, and the amazing vegan food out there. Make sure to follow me, if you aren’t already, to get notified of when this post goes live. Also, have you been to Barcelona before? Let me know what places I must visit and things I must do while I’m out there!
See you in a weeks time.
